What is CoverME.gov?
CoverME.gov is Maine’s official Marketplace where individuals and families can shop for and enroll in health and dental insurance. CoverME.gov is the place to apply for financial help to lower monthly premiums and out-of-pocket costs.
Why is my coverage switching from HealthCare.gov to CoverME.gov?
The Made for Maine Health Coverage Act, which was passed by the Maine Legislature in 2020, authorized the creation of a State-run Marketplace, CoverME.gov. This transition allows Maine to tailor the Marketplace shopping experience for Mainers, and to target outreach efforts to enroll even more residents in affordable coverage. All plans sold on CoverME.gov are Qualified Health Plans that provide comprehensive coverage.
Will my insurance plan change?
Your insurance plan will not change in 2021.
For 2022, all health plan members that are currently enrolled through HealthCare.gov and have elected to be auto-renewed will be automatically enrolled in the same plan (or most similar available plan) through CoverME.gov.
Even so, you should update your information on CoverME.gov, as you may be eligible for additional financial help to lower the cost of your plan. You can also compare plans being offered for 2022, to ensure you have the coverage that best meets your needs and budget.
When can I enroll in coverage?
Open Enrollment for 2022 coverage begins November 1, 2021 and will end January 15, 2022. For coverage to begin on January 1, you must enroll on or before December 15, 2021.
If you enroll between December 16 and January 15, your coverage will begin on February 1, 2022.
After Open Enrollment ends, you will have to wait until next fall for the next opportunity to enroll. The exception is if you have a qualifying life event -- like losing the insurance you get through your job, getting married or divorced, or having a baby. These events would qualify you for a special enrollment period, which means you may be eligible to enroll in a plan outside of the annual Open Enrollment period.
